Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake hits Switch 2 on November 5
Nintendo's remake of the 1998 classic arrives in about two weeks with full voice acting, orchestral music and a free camera. Physical pre-orders just got cheaper in the US.
The 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda gets its biggest release on November 5, when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives as a remake made exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The project was revealed in the June 9 Nintendo Direct, and the date came in the special Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8.
What changes from the original
Nintendo describes a full rebuild of the 1998 game, while keeping the structure that made it a classic. The main features shown so far:
- Overhauled visuals for Hyrule, its dungeons and characters.
- Fully voiced cutscenes, a first for this story.
- Symphonic orchestral soundtrack based on Koji Kondo's original themes.
- Free camera on the right stick and motion aiming.
- The option to play the ocarina using the console's microphone.
- A day and night cycle inside towns, plus the new Threads of Time and ZELDA NOTES features.
The game needs about 27 GB of storage.
Prices and pre-orders
In the United States, the digital version costs US$ 59.99 and the physical version US$ 69.99. The first print run comes with a foil cover. On October 20, Amazon and Walmart cut physical pre-orders to US$ 59.99, matching the digital price.
More Zelda on the way
The remake is only part of the anniversary plan. Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are scheduled for 2027, and the live-action Zelda film opens in theaters on April 30, 2027. Nintendo also launches a special Zelda edition of the Switch 2 on October 29, which has been hard to find since pre-orders opened.
For many players, Ocarina of Time is one of the most important games ever made. The challenge for Nintendo is to modernize it without losing what made the original special, and the answer arrives in a little over two weeks.
